Important information about the CRSD District 9 School Board Seat

In the May primary, Dave Espenshade was elected to run as our District 9 Council Rock School Board Representative.  Dave had to withdraw from the race to pursue a job opportunity outside of our area, making it impossible for him to serve. Upon hearing about the opening for this position, a truly unique and capable candidate sought to serve his community.  We are therefore pleased and excited to announce that Mitchell Smedley of Wrightstown is running for the School Board position.

Mitchell Smedley was shaped by Council Rock. As a student who was blind since birth, Mitchell learned to conquer challenges at every step of his journey.  In Council Rock, he was an honors student, going on to graduate Cum Laude with a dual major in Communications and Philosophy from Kutztown University.  Outside of the classroom, Mitchell has always been active in the community, especially in sports where he participated in everything from baseball to soccer to wrestling.  In college, he was a staple of Kutztown University's radio station, KUR.  On the radio, Mitchell hosted three radio shows, nationally broadcasted news coverage, and served as station president.  He also spent time as a paid writer and sports editor for the newspaper at Kutztown.  Now out of college, Mitchell is looking to bring his talents in mass communication to larger broadcasting markets.

As a 2021 graduate of Council Rock, Mitchell's experienced first-hand the impact of COVID-19 years on students and families.  He understands the consequences of remote learning, the importance of transparency, and the need for decisions that prioritize students over politics.

Mitchell is thoughtful, articulate, and solutions driven. He brings the unique perspective of a recent student, someone who lived through the system he now seeks to improve. He is committed to ensuring Council Rock’s schools are academically excellent, fiscally responsible, and focused on measurable outcomes that support both students and taxpayers.

At a time when families are rightly concerned about rising taxes and spending priorities, Mitchell offers a grounded and fresh voice and will be someone who will listen, advocate, and lead with integrity and common sense.
